Applying the project’s methodology to a stratified sample of 108 participants, it is concluded that Chileans value positively their own variety, and even go as far as to consider it “the best” Spanish. Furthermore, data indicates that Chileans recognize their own variety exactly, even though, in parallel, there is a tendency to confound the Chilean variety with the one from the Canary Islands. On top of that, direct and indirect evaluations show that the participants in our sample have very positive attitudes towards their own speech variety, while it is possible to observe some sociolinguistic variation patterns in relation to sex, age, and the participant’s educational levels. It follows the same methodology as a previous study carried out on Castilian variety to advance in the comparison of different varieties of Spanish. Only one type of identification is considered, the correct one, and two significance criteria: rating scale for the variety and distance between values. It is noted that the speakers of Buenos Aires clearly identify the Chilean variety and that they assign it a valuation located preferably within the slightly positive zone. The expansion of the sample of interviewees with secondary education allows some sociolinguistic conclusions. The research has a stratified sample of 108 informants from Antioquia’s Metropolitan Area of the Aburrá Valley in Colombia. They are distributed into social factors such as sex, age and educational level following the parameters of the Project for the study of beliefs and attitudes towards Spanish varieties in the XXI century (PRECAVES XXI). Results from the survey’s data show that in Antioquia there is a good identification of the Spanish spoken in Chile, leaded by the young generation and the university students. Futhermore, antioquian people consider that people in Chile have a well-qualified job position, a medium level income, a high school degree, and that their country and culture seem to be interesting, but unfamiliar and slightly distant. It offers a summary of the prevailing research that has been conducted on this topic in Cuba and examines the results, which report on the beliefs and attitudes of Cubans towards the Chilean variety of speech. On the one hand, it highlights the need for continued research by means of an interdisciplinary approach and recognizes the importance of paying greater attention to diasporic Cuban communities. On the other, based on a stratified sample of 108 speakers, it concludes that Cubans register a low degree of proximity towards the Chilean variety, which is demonstrated by their recurring confusion between this variety and that of the Canaries; and they hold, in large measure, the pronunciation of latter variety in lower regard. No significant variations are observed according to the sociolinguistic variables of the study. Further, respondents offered positive evaluations towards Chileans, focused especially on affective characteristics such as friendliness, professionalism, kindness and education. The methodology from the project was applied to a stratified sample made up of 144 speakers of the Community of Madrid (Spain) and concluded that speakers of this community identify the Chilean accent with difficulty, and that they feel that the variety from Chile is quite distant with respect to their own variety of language. However, the beliefs and attitudes toward the Chilean variety are not negative and, in relation to certain aspects, it is considered better than even their own variety. Social factors do not seem to have effect neither over the recognition nor the assessment of the variety, even if the Chilean accent is better recognized in free spoken speech than in the written language, and in masculine voices than in feminine ones. The results obtained from the survey of 108 subjects, distributed according to sex, age and educational level, showed that: 1) the Chilean variety was not included among the models of linguistic prestige contemplated by the respondents; 2) the degree of identification of this geolectal modality was low and it was often confused with the other Spanish-American varieties; 3) the direct and indirect valuations yielded rather positive beliefs and attitudes; and 4) sometimes, the social features of the respondents conditioned their opinions. The research is framed in the second phase of the Project for the study of beliefs and attitudes towards Spanish varieties in the XXI century (PRECAVES XXI), with a uniform stratification of the sample in the variables gender, age and educational level. The results show a scarce recognition of the Chilean variety, as well as a tendency to confuse it with their own. The Canarians also show a high esteem for Chilean speech, both in the direct valuation of the voices and in the indirect valuation through the characteristics of the speakers, the country and the culture. There is, however, a greater valuation of qualities related to human and affective dimensions, as opposed to those linked to status and social advancement. Women, university educated people and secondgeneration speakers exhibit generally higher evaluations of the Chilean variety. Based on the methodology of the Project for the study of beliefs and attitudes towards Spanish varieties in the XXI century (PRECAVES XXI), the results review whether the existence of a “better Spanish” is still valid. Then, it examines the degree of identification of the different varieties of Spanish by participants from Barcelona and, finally, a set of questions, grouped into direct evaluations (cognitive and affective) and indirect evaluations (sociocultural features of the speaker, the country and its culture), are examined to observe attitudes and beliefs towards the Chilean variety. In general, the ratings are positive and, for social factors (gender, age, level of education and L1) and extralinguistic factors (male or female voice) that may explain the differences between groups, the participant’s L1 (Spanish or Catalan), as well as the voice heard (a male or a female voice) should be noted. Applying the project’s methodology to a stratified sample of 108 participants, it is concluded that the exact recognition of the variety is very low and that it is mostly confused with the Argentinian one. On the other hand, the measurement of the direct and indirect evaluations reveals that the informants show very positive attitudes towards the Chilean variety, showing even higher scores than when they evaluate their own dialect. Some patterns of sociolinguistic variation of interest are also observed in relation to the factors of sex, age and level of education. Due to its novelty in the work carried out to date in the framework of PRECAVES XXI, and also in the investigation of linguistic attitudes in general, it stands out that female voices are clearly better valued at all levels than male voices. The corpus was composed of 23 editorials from these newspapers. Metaphor identification was done through Discourse Dynamics Approach to Metaphor. A total of 653 metaphors was found, which was then grouped, resulting in a total sum of 268 metaphors for the analysis. In this research, the editorial perspective about the social outbreak of two local newspapers was studied through metaphor. In both media outlets, similar metaphor vehicles were used. While Diario El Sur prioritizes the need for normalization, Diario Concepción legitimates the demonstrations as an expression of social discontent. A collocational error taxonomy was used to determine the source (intralingual and interlingual) of the cognitive mechanisms leading to the error by contrasting English-Spanish collocational equivalents. The findings show a greater number of interlingual errors in both levels, which include collocative false selection or omission of the collocative, and collocational addition errors. Nevertheless, overgeneralization error frequency in level B1 surpasses level A2 in intralingual mechanisms. This would reveal greater impact of L2 (Spanish) distinctions as error cause in B1 level. This study contributes to research on the acquisition of intermediate fixedness phraseological units, particularly, to the explanatory aspects of grammatical collocation errors in anglophone learners of Spanish as a foreign language.
