Leadership Training for Professional Technical Secondary Education in Chile: Contributions and Challenges

Authors

Abstract

In Chile, with varied quality and relevance, the training offer for school leaders has increased exponentially in recent decades. However, with few exceptions, the programs offered have a general focus, without addressing particularities of context. There are experiences in the design and implementation of training programs for leaders of professional-technical secondary education (EMTP in Spanish), developed between 2012 and 2019 by the education area of Fundación Chile. These pioneering programs offered managers and their teams training relevant to their reality, their students, and their territorial context, to develop skills to manage the specific variables of technical education. This article collects some contributions from these programs and their implementation, as well as raises various challenges that must be addressed by other ongoing training initiatives for EMTP leaders.
