Politics in School: A Time of Hope from the Thought of Paulo Freire

Abstract

The intention to forge a school government, based on the historical context of the 1991 Constitution, has been a significant experience for democracy in Colombia. However, the historical course has shown the absence of democratic changes, plurality and transformation that link the student body in the autonomous formation of their school government. On the contrary, the school government has become a replica of the precarious Colombian democratic model and has led to an eroded, simulated democracy. In this way, it is necessary to take the theoretical approaches of Paulo Freire regarding its political content, to establish a democratic dialogue that supports the awakening of youth.
