Abstract

The refinement of clinical observation procedures depends both on the standardization of some instrument, and on the training of specialists in that instrument. Parallel to the standardization of Structured Clinical Observations (SCO), the Chilean Corporation for Sensory Integration has designed and implemented a training model in these. This paper analyzes the answers of 46 occupational therapists trained in these courses, referring both to the qualification criteria of the trained SCO, and the application of the tests. In the SCO qualification, most of the responses of the quantitative items were similar to those of the instructors. Regarding the qualitative and dichotomous items, grouped by test, the results had between 43 and 98% of agreement with the instructors’ criteria. In the SCO administration, the participants obtained an average score above 81% of the maximum score in the directions, and between 57 and 87% in the execution and demonstration of the tests. This model of training can contribute to the purpose of obtaining reliable measurements and accurate interpretations of the occupational performance of the clients of occupational therapy services. In addition, the analysis of the learnings obtained in a clinical training course can be a relevant supply for the development of assessments, contributing to the specific reliability of the tests.
