Ethical Statement

In order to guarantee the integrity and quality of the articles published, as well as transparency in the evaluation procedures, Meridional. Revista Chilena de Estudios Latinoamericanos, has as a reference the Code of Conduct and Best Practices of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) for editors of scientific journals. The Editorial Committee of the journal will ensure that all those involved in the editorial process, i.e., editors, peer reviewers and authors, comply with these ethical standards.

Meridional has a system for the selection of articles, which are reviewed by external evaluators, under the double-blind system, with criteria based exclusively on the scientific relevance, originality, clarity and pertinence of the article. Likewise, the journal takes care at all times of the confidentiality of the evaluation process, the anonymity of the evaluators and authors, the evaluation results, as well as any document emanating from the papers submitted for publication.

Meridional declares its commitment to the probity of the published works, so plagiarism is strictly prohibited. Articles that incur in plagiarism or do not respect the copyright will be removed from the journal with the greatest possible diligence. By accepting the rules and terms of publication, authors must ensure that their work is original and complies with the regulations on authorship. They must also ensure that they have not been submitted simultaneously to another medium or published previously.

Meridional uses the Turnitin plagiarism detection software to monitor compliance with the rules regarding the originality of articles.

Basic ethical rules for publication in the journal:

  1. Manuscripts should conform to national and international standards for academic publications. Theoretical references must be up to date and relevant to the topic addressed. If the article is based on the development of a scientific research, it must present an adequate methodological design and adjust the selection criteria of the sample or the participating subjects to the ethical regulations in force in the country.
  2. The journal does not exercise any type of discrimination with respect to the authors due to their ethnic, social, gender, sexual orientation or political or religious beliefs.
  3. Manuscripts that evidence a conflict of interest or may involve any form of scientific/academic fraud will not be published in the journal.
  4. Plagiarism, self-plagiarism, double publication or fraudulent use of any material seeking publication in the journal is expressly prohibited.
  5. In the event of an ethical conflict, the procedures recommended by COPE (Committee on Publications Ethics) for its resolution will be followed. For further information, please refer to their web page.
  6. It is forbidden for all members of the journal to use unpublished material for personal benefit or for the benefit of one or more institutions without the express consent and acceptance of those involved.

Ethical guidelines for the Editorial Committee:

  1. It is the responsibility of the Editorial Committee to select the articles and material published in the journal, ensuring their adequate scientific and/or academic merit, in strict compliance with the editorial guidelines.
  2. It is the responsibility of the Editorial Committee to carry out ex officio or request the authors to make the pertinent modifications of the material evaluated, in compliance with the editorial norms.
  3. It is the responsibility of the Editor, the Editorial Assistant and/or the Editorial Committee to send accepted manuscripts for review to external reviewers, guaranteeing the anonymity and confidentiality of all those involved in the process.
  4. It is the responsibility of the Editorial Committee and the Editor of the journal to carry out the corresponding measures to avoid or repair any type of academic fraud involving the publication, in any of its phases.
  5. It is the responsibility of the Editorial Committee, the Assistant Editor and/or the Editor to report in a timely manner the results of the evaluation of submissions.
  6. It is the responsibility of the Editorial Committee to request clarifications or introduce amendments to manuscripts that require it. If any error or fraud is detected after the publication of an issue of the journal, it is the responsibility and attribution of the Editor and/or the Editorial Committee to manage the withdrawal of the articles or the complete issue, as the case may be. In any case, modifications must be reported on the journal's web page.
  7. It is the responsibility of the Editorial Committee to maintain permanent communication with authors and external evaluators during the review and publication process. Communication may be established after publication if necessary.
  8. It is the responsibility of the Director and/or the Editorial Committee to safeguard the integrity and confidentiality of information concerning all persons involved in the production process of the publication.

Ethical guidelines for authors:

  1. The author of a manuscript will be considered to be the person who makes relevant intellectual contributions to the conception, design, methodology and elaboration of an original study. Persons who make other contributions to the submitted manuscript will not be considered authors but collaborators and should be mentioned in the acknowledgements section of the text.
  2. Those who submit book reviews, essays, partial or complete translations of works or articles will also be considered authors.
  3. Authors should send unpublished and original manuscripts. Authors are responsible for guaranteeing the veracity and authenticity of the data used in their manuscript, their institutional affiliation and the bibliographical references used. Any use of outside material must be authorized by the authors under the exceptions contemplated by the Intellectual Property Law. The pertinent bibliographical references should be indicated in consideration of the publication standards of Meridional. Revista Chilena de Estudios Latinoamericanos.
  4. It is the responsibility of the authors to inform the Editor of the journal in case of identifying an error in their publication and to collaborate with the respective amendment in cases where it is necessary.
  5. Authors must declare their acceptance of the editorial and intellectual property rules of Meridional. Revista Chilena de Estudios Latinoamericanos.
  6. Authors must make the corrections requested as mandatory by the Editor and external evaluators. If the author does not agree with the requested correction, he/she should contact the journal's editorial committee.
  7. The contents and/or opinions expressed in the work of the authors are their exclusive responsibility.

Ethical guidelines for external evaluators of Meridional. Revista Chilena de Estudios Latinoamericanos:

  1. Reviewers can only accept the review of manuscripts referring to topics on which they have sufficient competence and experience to be able to carry out their analysis and review. If this is not the case, or if there are conflicts of interest, they must resign the evaluation of the manuscript.
  2. Reviewers must undertake to maintain confidentiality and/or anonymity with respect to the author of the manuscript or the persons involved in its design throughout the review process.
  3. Reviewers must inform the Director, the Editor or the Editorial Committee of the journal Meridional. Revista Chilena de Estudios Latinoamericanos any situation of scientific fraud, plagiarism or self-plagiarism that they may detect or corroborate during the manuscript review process.
  4. The reviewers must report any observations they have on the manuscript within the period assigned by the Editorial Committee, which must be in accordance with the evaluation guidelines of the journal Meridional. Revista Chilena de Estudios Latinoamericanos.
