Abstract

The present article aims at contributing to the debate on youth, providing new visions on the conceptual perspectives applied to speak about youth, youngsters and youth matters in an adultcentric society. For this, the production of knowledge obtained from the social research on youth in Chile is questioned, in particular from the imaginaries from which such production has been based. I regard adult-youngsters relationships are conditioned by, among others, a set of mutual preconceptions that - as stigmata - have a dehumanizing effect on such relationships. Consequently, this research was aimed at understanding those preconceptions as imaginaries produced and spread from social research, counting from the beginning on a knowledge pool drawn from youth studies potentially helpful for proposing alternatives from an epistemological perspective, in opposition to hegemonic and adultcentric notions. I defined the object of study, hence, as the imaginaries produced by the Chilean social research on youth in relation to the adultcentric condition of the post-dictatorship contemporary society. For this research, carried out between 2011 and 2013, an inductive documentary analysis with content analysis was the methodology used, which allowed examining the contents published on Revista Última Década from 1993 to 2010.
