Abstract

In the present article diverse conceptions of trust are presented, starting by mentioning that it can be understood as a rational process; conceived as an abstract state in people, which is developed consciously. This implies that people rationalize the trust that is bestowed on others, meaning that it can be seen as a state of mind of men which indicates security and optimism in his relationship with his environment. Trust builds social relationships and is strongly associated with social cohesion. In this process, young people are very wary of social institutions, in particular those related to politics. This phenomenon —the lack of trust in the institutions that are in charge of collective matters— would jeopardize the possibilites of achieving good levels of social cohesion.
