Abstract

What are the current religious beliefs and practices of high school students in Santiago, Chile, and to what extent do they confirm or modify previously observed trends? To answer these questions, the main quantitative results of a recent doctoral research project on these two dimensions of religiosity are presented and discussed considering previous data. The results show the still presence of a Christian-oriented religiosity, although weakened and transformed by religious deinstitutionalization processes; and the growth of an “emergent” religiosity, which includes beliefs and practices foreign to the hegemonic Christian tradition.
