Abstract

This article presents a study on the production, reproduction and spreading cycle of youth discrimination on digital social media. From an identification of stigmatizing terms such as “Snowflake Generation,” “NEETs” and “Feminazis,” a mixed-methods research study is conducted to quantify qualitative data through methods such as sentiment analysis, word frequency, and word co-occurrence. The database has been built by downloading and collecting Spanish-written tweets containing these stigmatizing terms. The findings show that the narrative contexts surrounding these labels are accompanied by violent processes intertwining the digital and physical spaces, along with reflecting discriminatory and stigmatizing emotions.
